Cellars are incredibly useful spaces for utility rooms, but their below-ground location makes them prime targets for penetrating damp. In this Clapham Junction property, we transformed a damp, compromised cellar into a clean, fully waterproofed laundry and utility space.
Before our intervention, the cellar walls were suffering from visible moisture ingress, causing the paint and plaster to peel away and stain just above the floor level. This damp environment was unsuitable for safely housing appliances, stored items, and electrical utilities.
The Type A Waterproofing Solution:
To permanently secure the space against groundwater pressure, we implemented a robust Type A waterproofing system alongside a fresh floor installation:
- We stripped back the compromised wall surfaces and applied a robust Type A waterproofing slurry combined with a specialist waterproof render. This process created a smooth, continuous, and impermeable grey barrier directly on the structural masonry.
- To complete the renovation, we removed the original dark flooring and laid down fresh, light-colored, large-format tiles. We carefully leveled the surface and utilized precision tile spacers during the installation to ensure a flawless, modern finish.
